For most Tucson homeowners, yes. Tucson is one of the sunniest cities in the country, and cooling bills run high for much of the year. Most Tucson homes are on Tucson Electric Power (TEP), which locks the export rate in place when you apply to connect for 10 years, so you know what your extra solar will earn.

Net billing
TEP doesn't credit exported solar one-for-one. You use your solar first, and anything extra is credited at TEP's export rate, which is lower than what you pay for power.
Solar you use as it's produced offsets power you'd otherwise buy at TEP's full retail rate, so it's worth the most.
Extra solar you send to the grid is credited at 4.62 cents per kWh for customers who apply to connect between October 1, 2026 and September 30, 2027.
The export rate in place when you apply stays with your system for 10 years, so you can plan around it.
Most of Tucson is served by TEP. Some homes on the edges of the metro are on an electric co-op with its own solar rules, and we confirm yours in your quote.

Qualifying solar equipment and installation are exempt from Arizona's transaction privilege tax (A.R.S. §42-5061 and §42-5075).
