Tesla Inverter: New System Setup Guide

Quick answer

To turn on a new Tesla inverter system, switch on the solar breaker in your main panel, then flip the outdoor disconnect lever to ON. The Tesla inverter has no power switch and starts producing automatically. Track production in the Tesla app using the email address Icon Power has on file.

What you'll do

Turning on a Tesla inverter system takes two steps: the solar breaker and the outdoor disconnect. The inverter handles the rest automatically.

Step 1: Turn on your solar breaker

Open your main electrical panel and find the solar breaker. Look for a label such as:

  • PV
  • Photovoltaic
  • Solar

This breaker is often marked with a red placard. Flip it to ON.

Step 2: Turn on the outdoor disconnect

Find the disconnect box outside, usually near your main panel. Inside, you'll see a lever. Flip it from OFF to ON.

Step 3: Your system turns on automatically

You don't need to do anything to the Tesla inverter itself. It doesn't have an on/off switch. Once the breaker and disconnect are on, your system should begin producing power.

Step 4: How do I monitor my system in the Tesla app?

Download the Tesla app and log in. Your system is already linked to the email address Icon Power has on file.

  • Check your email or text messages for a Tesla registration link.
  • If you don't see it, create a Tesla account using that same email address.

Once you're logged in, you can:

  • See real-time energy production
  • Track your home's energy use
  • Monitor battery performance, if you have a battery

What to expect next

  • Your system may take a little time to appear in the Tesla app.
  • Production varies with sunlight and time of day.
