Tesla Inverter: New System Setup Guide

Turn On Your Tesla Inverter System

Your solar system is ready. Let’s get it powered on.

This quick guide will walk you through turning on your Tesla inverter system and getting set up for monitoring.

What You’ll Do

You’ll complete two simple steps:

  • Turn on your solar breaker

  • Turn on your outdoor disconnect

That’s it. Tesla inverters handle the rest automatically.

Step 1: Turn On Your Solar Breaker

Open your main electrical panel and locate your solar breaker.

Look for a label such as:

  • PV

  • Photovoltaic

  • Solar

This breaker is often marked with a red placard.

Flip the breaker to the On position.

Step 2: Turn On the Outdoor Disconnect

Find the disconnect box outside, typically near your main panel.

Inside, you’ll see a lever.

Flip the lever from Off to On.

Step 3: Your System Turns On Automatically

There is nothing you need to do with the Tesla inverter itself.

It does not have an on/off switch.

Once the breaker and disconnect are on, your system should begin producing power.

Step 4: Monitor Your System in the Tesla App

To track your system’s performance, download the Tesla app and log in.

Your system is already linked to the email address we have on file.

  • Check your email or text messages for a Tesla registration link

  • If you don’t see it, create a Tesla account using the same email

Once logged in, you’ll be able to:

  • View real-time energy production

  • Track home energy usage

  • Monitor battery performance (if applicable)

What to Expect Next

After turning your system on:

  • Your system may take a short time to appear in the Tesla app

  • Production will vary based on sunlight and time of day

  • You’ll start seeing savings as your system offsets your energy usage
