The 30% federal residential tax credit (Section 25D) expired December 31, 2025. If you buy a system with cash or a loan in 2026, there’s no federal credit.

The good news: Nevada’s state-level benefits are among the strongest in the Southwest, and they’re what actually drive Las Vegas solar economics.

• NV Energy net metering — 75% retail rate credit on excess energy you send to the grid. That’s meaningfully better than Arizona (roughly 3–10¢ against a much higher retail rate) or Texas (no statewide net metering at all).
• NV Energy battery storage incentives — available to customers on time-of-use rate plans
• Portfolio Energy Credits (PECs) — Nevada’s version of SRECs, earned on the renewable energy your system produces
• Lease/PPA financing — the 30% credit still exists under Section 48E for third-party owned systems. The owner claims it and passes the value through as a lower payment. This is currently the only route to federal credit value on a residential system.

No. If your system was installed and operational before December 31, 2025, you claim the credit on the return for the year it was placed in service. That isn’t retroactively removed — the expiration only affects systems installed in 2026 and after.

Typically several weeks from signed contract to Permission to Operate. The installation itself is usually one to two days — the rest is permitting, inspection, and NV Energy interconnection. Nevada’s solar access and easement laws make the process more straightforward than in many states, but the timeline still depends on permit queues and utility processing, not on us. Your system can’t legally produce power until NV Energy grants Permission to Operate.

Homes with owned solar systems generally sell for more than comparable homes without them. The effect depends on your market, your system’s age, and whether the system is owned or leased — owned systems carry more value at resale.

Worth running the numbers. Because net metering credits at 75% of retail rather than 100%, storing your production and using it at night is worth somewhat more than exporting it — though that gap is smaller in Nevada than in Arizona or Texas. The stronger case is NV Energy’s battery incentive if you’re on a time-of-use plan, plus outage protection: solar alone won’t power your home when the grid goes down. Only a battery will.
